Hello. My name is Mark Whittaker and I like to write about things.
First off, my late uncle Bob played Abe Lincoln in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”. Sure he was an actor but he was also an accomplished writer up until his passing in 2000. Some say I got the bug from him but, I don’t know. I’ve always been able to write a lot better than I can talk. Which is also why I gave up acting.
It all started in the late 90’s when I was handed a writing gig from a friend who was turning a local weekly paper into a slick magazine. At the time I was living in San Francisco and he was stationed in a small town up north. He wanted to focus on music so he sent me to a lot of shows to interview bands, review shows and records and generally give him content. That lead to contributing to other magazines and when the dot com thing hit the Bay Area I kinda got caught up in it all.
After the “dot bomb” I continued to write for dozens of music and art style websites, magazines, papers and such. That is until I met my future wife on a foggy San Francisco night to which I proposed just two days after we met. Luckily she said yes.
She was living in an Arizona township called “Tucson” and I moved there blindly to be with her in February of 2006. I have been a Tucson resident ever since.
After eating a Sonoran hot dog (look it up) my focus switched to food and I started my blog, The Tucson Homeskillet, because of my lifelong obsession with all things eating and drinking. That blog lead me to be the food writer for the Tucson Weekly until the wreck of Covid in 2020.
But I persisted with the Homeskillet which then got me a writing position with Tucson Foodie. That is until they decided to move in a new direction and ditched all of their writers. Oh well.
After a hiatus to focus on my wife, cat, house and self, I am ready to get back into it. So ready.
The name Yeah Write Mark spawned from so many people saying “Yeah right Mark” to me after telling tales of my adventures being me all these years. And I’m a writer see? Yeah. Very pun-y.
Anyway, yes I will be writing about food and such but I have a lot of other stories to tell so sit back, grab a cup or glass of your favorite beverage and enjoy.
It’s going to be real neat.
I promise.
Cheers!
